Hi! I’m Dr. Sharon Somekh,

I’m a parenting mentor, general pediatrician, and lactation consultant. I help parents gain confidence in their parenting skills, so they can spend more time enjoying their kids, and less time worrying about “doing it right” – especially in today’s crazy world.

After a decade of practicing general pediatrics, I came to the realization that my most fulfilling moments in the office were spent discussing parenting concerns. Raising healthy, independent children is the goal of most parents, but we all know that doesn’t mean it’s an easy road. My goal is to make it easier, for all of us.

My husband and I have four beautiful daughters. As a mom, I’ve had many moments of pride and joy and moments where I’ve been frustrated and lost my patience, of course. I mean, (haven’t we all?).

Finding my stride as a parent and learning how to communicate with my family has made this journey of parenting so much more enjoyable, and I love helping other parents do the same.

Family is the most important thing in the world to me.

Some fun stuff about me: I hate blue cheese. But get this… I love food. In fact, I love food so much that I’ll try almost anything once. But blue cheese? No thanks.

I’m known for throwing fun parties with lots of food, dancing and great company. Some people have called me a social butterfly. I’m not so sure that’s true, as much as I just enjoy learning about other people. Maybe that comes from the fact that I was raised in a large family myself. Having people around makes me feel at home.

Now for the credentials, I know you want to see those:

I studied medicine and completed my residency at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.

My first daughter was born early in my career as a pediatrician and boy did it shape how I practiced! Suddenly I found myself giving advice rooted in personal experience rather than simply stating facts from my textbooks.

Like most working moms, I faced those time-management, parenting challenges. I spent many nights in the hospital caring for the children of Central New York. I learned to rely on others for help and to make every moment with my daughter count.

By the time our second daughter was born my schedule was significantly more forgiving and I continued to build on my experiences as a mother and a pediatrician.

After having 2 daughters and struggling with breastfeeding both times, I wanted my third experience to be different. Lucky for me, I was working in an office in Philadelphia where we had a lactation consultant in house. I spent most of my free time learning from her, so I could help others with their breastfeeding challenges. At the same time, I set myself up for a more successful experience with my third daughter.

Now, with all four daughters thriving, I’ve decided to turn my attention to supporting as many parents as I can on their parenting journey.

We’re all in this together. I look forward to working with you, too.
